Lawton AIABar supplies CC-3 ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12 ductile iron to manufacturers throughout Wisconsin and across the United States. This ductile iron grade has a tensile strength of 65,000 psi, a yield strength of 45,000 psi and 12% elongation. Its density is 0.256 pounds per cubic inch (lb/in³), or 7.1 grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³), with a hardness range of 131 to 220 BHN. The as-cast microstructure is ferritic.

Its fine ferritic structure makes CC-3 65-45-12 one of the most machinable AIABar ductile iron grades. It supports high spindle speeds, reduced tool wear and quality surface finishes. ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12 is widely used for hydraulic pistons and other metal-to-metal applications requiring strength, machinability and wear resistance.

CC-3 65-45-12 Ductile Iron for Durability and Service Life

Nationwide 65-45-12 ductile iron Supplier

CC-3 65-45-12 ductile iron features unparalleled machinability.

AIABar ductile iron combines strong machinability with consistent material performance. The continuous casting process promotes uniformity and soundness throughout the bar, helping support reliable machining and finished-part quality.

Higher turning speeds can improve tool life and reduce machining labor compared with some steel applications. The graphite structure of ASTM A536 ductile iron also creates small recesses capable of retaining lubricant, which can benefit oil-lubricated parts during operation.

These characteristics make CC-3 65-45-12 ductile iron well suited for hydraulic components and other wear-intensive applications.

Performance Compared With Aluminum, Bronze and Steel

Testing compared CC-3 65-45-12 ductile cast iron with aluminum, bronze and steel while operators worked to achieve strong surface feet per minute performance with comparable cut depths and surface roughness.

The test used a 7 hp lathe configured to produce hydraulic cylinder pistons with a Valenite VC 67 carbide insert.:
