High-Strength ASTM A536 Grade 80-55-06 Ductile Iron
Lawton AIABar supplies CC-4 ASTM A536 Grade 80-55-06 ductile iron to manufacturers throughout Wisconsin and nationwide. This continuous cast ductile iron combines high strength with strong machinability, making it a cost-effective alternative to steel for demanding industrial applications. Its pearlitic structure supports custom machining, heavy-duty components and applications requiring greater mechanical strength.
CC-4 is well suited for applications requiring physical properties comparable to certain steel grades along with strong machinability. ASTM A536 Grade 80-55-06 ductile iron has a tensile strength of 80,000 psi, a yield strength of 55,000 psi and 6% elongation. Among AIABar ductile iron grades, CC-4 provides high strength and may be heat treated to reach tensile strength levels up to 100,000 psi. Due to its pearlitic structure, CC-4 typically machines at rates approximately 10-15% below CC-3 65-45-12.
CC-4 Continuous Cast Ductile Iron as a Steel Replacement
ASTM A536 Grade 80-55-06 ductile iron can provide significant cost savings for parts requiring extensive machining. Its machinability is comparable to common carbon steel grades such as 1144, 1141, 11L17 and 12L14 while supporting efficient machining speeds.
AIABar continuous cast ductile iron also offers inherent corrosion resistance, good damping characteristics and reduced machining requirements for many applications. These properties make CC-4 a practical steel alternative for custom industrial components.

AIABar 80-55-06 Ductile Iron Promotes Oil Retention
AIABar ductile iron combines durability, machinability and long service life. Its graphite nodules create microscopic recesses capable of retaining lubricant, helping oil-lubricated components maintain lubrication during operation. This oil-retention capability can provide added protection in applications where lubrication loss is a concern.
CC-4 80-55-06 ductile iron also offers high machining rates, good damping capacity and strong mechanical performance. Lawton AIABar supplies this material as raw stock or as precision CNC-machined custom components.
AIABar Performance Compared With Aluminum, Bronze and Steel
The following chart compares speeds and feeds for aluminum, bronze, steel and CC-4 ASTM A536 Grade 80-55-06 ductile iron. Testing used standard production rates on conventional tooling and equipment.
Operators worked to reach optimum surface feet per minute while maintaining comparable depth of cut and surface roughness across each material.
