A Superior Alternative to Steel: CC-1 Class 30 Gray Iron

CC-1 Class 30 gray iron has a nominal tensile strength of 30,000 psi and a Brinell hardness range of 109 annealed to 207 as cast. These properties make Class 30 gray iron a strong alternative to steel for many engine, machinery and machining applications.
During continuous casting, CC-1 Class 30 gray iron solidifies more uniformly than many sand-cast materials. This consistency can improve machinability while reducing scrap and secondary processing requirements. For many applications, continuous cast gray iron can also provide a cost-effective alternative to steel.
Class 30 gray iron (30,000 psi) is used for many custom-cast parts.
CC-1 Class 30 gray iron also offers high damping capacity, approximately 20 to 25 times greater than steel, along with strong hardness and machinability. These characteristics make it well suited for engine blocks, brake components, heavy machinery supports and other industrial applications.
